Welcome to the IPA

Member Discipline - Complaints and Concerns

Procedures by which the IPA investigates complaints and concerns about its members have recently been revised, and are now available on the IPA website for the benefit of members and other interested parties.

New Insolvency Specialist at IPA

The IPA is delighted to welcome Narelle Ferrier, who has been appointed to the role of Technical Director, joining Kim Arnold and Michael Murray in the Association's team of insolvency specialists.

Narelle is a Chartered Accountant with fourteen years' experience in insolvency, most recently with McGrathNicol in Melbourne, where she worked as a Professional Practice Consultant. Narelle has presented the Introduction to Insolvency Program in Victoria for the IPA over the past few years.

Narelle will contribute to all areas of the IPA's insolvency specialist activities, with a particular emphasis on member complaints and discipline, and the further development of our education and continuing professional development programs.

Michael, Kim and Narelle represent a significant and important investment in technical expertise that is directed to assisting members through the development and application of professional standards, contributing to insolvency law reform, and representing members and the profession to policy makers and regulators.

Narelle will be working part time, and can be contacted via email at nferrier@ipaa.com.au.

IPA Member Handbook 2012

Have you renewed your membership for 2012?

The 2012 edition of the IPA Member Handbook is provided to all current IPA members as part of their annual subscription, including student members enrolled in one of our insolvency education programs. It shows our commitment to continuing to enhance the benefits and importance of IPA membership in the insolvency industry.

The Handbook was launched in 2011 and has been extremely well received. It is produced in partnership with Thomson Reuters, and contains key IPA documents, such as the recently amended IPA Constitution, the first revision of the IPA Code of Professional Practice, and an index to articles published in the Australian Insolvency Journal in the last three years. In subsequent editions of the Handbook, this index will continue to be extended as each previous year’s articles are included.

In addition to the IPA material, the Handbook includes important insolvency legislation, such as: key sections of the Corporations Act (including Chapters 2D, 2G, 2K and 5 in their entirety); the Corporations Regulations relating to Chapter 5 of the Corporations Act; the Bankruptcy Act and Regulations in full; the Bankruptcy (Estate Charges) Act; the Cross-Border Insolvency Act and Regulations; and lists of relevant procedural forms for the Federal Court.

The Handbooks are being dispatched on a weekly basis once subscription renewals are received and processed. Please allow a few days for processing and dispatch, but if you have renewed your subscription and do not receive your Handbook in a reasonable time, please let us know by emailing membership@ipaa.com.au.

Handbooks are also available for purchase, please download Handbook Order Form.

IPA Code of Professional Practice, 2nd edition

The IPA provides the Code of Professional Practice (IPA Code) as the standard for professional conduct in the insolvency profession.

The primary purposes of the IPA Code are to:

  • educate IPA members as to their professional responsibilities; and
  • provide a reference for stakeholders against which they can gauge the conduct of practitioners.

The 2nd edition of the IPA Code has now been approved by the IPA Board and took effect from 1 January 2011. The 1st edition of the Code is withdrawn from that date. For details of the changes made to the Code, please refer to this article. A pdf of Version 2 of the IPA Code can be downloaded here.
